Large traditional samplers are one of the most beautiful expressions of ancient embroidery art. True demonstrations of skill, they bring together alphabets, letters of different sizes, and decorative motifs in a harmonious composition designed to transmit needle mastery as well as a taste for beautiful things. This work elegantly perpetuates this tradition that has spanned centuries.
Conceived by Marie-Anne Réthoret and Création Point de Croix, this creation features a magnificent alphabet composed of varied letters arranged with balance and refinement. Inspired by antique marking samplers, this sampler captivates with its sobriety and authenticity. Its timeless design makes it a particularly pleasant piece to embroider and display in a classic or contemporary interior.
The design was embroidered on DMC 11-thread/cm linen fabric, worked over 2 warp threads and 2 weft threads. This traditional support perfectly highlights the finesse of the letters and recalls the works made in the past by young embroiderers during their apprenticeship.
This creation can also be made on Aida fabric 5.5 stitches/cm to facilitate the embroidery work while maintaining similar dimensions. Both supports allow for an elegant result faithful to the spirit of antique samplers.
The charts are printed with symbols and colors (DMC ref.) on 6 pages.
