Chart: Old red sampler, Cross Stitch Creation

Old samplers are precious testaments to the expertise of embroiderers of yesteryear. Made with patience and meticulousness, they served both as a learning exercise and a demonstration of technical mastery. Alphabets, decorative friezes, and symbolic motifs were thus interwoven on large pieces of linen intended to span generations. This superb red sampler is part of this secular tradition and perpetuates the timeless elegance of old works.

Designed by DMC and Création Point de Croix, this creation incorporates the codes of traditional samplers embroidered with red thread. The letters, borders, and small decorative motifs form a harmonious ensemble inspired by works preserved in family cabinets and old collections. Its sobriety and refinement make it a decorative piece particularly appreciated by enthusiasts of traditional embroidery.

The model was embroidered on a DMC linen fabric with 11 threads/cm, worked over 2 warp threads and 2 weft threads. This support is perfectly suited to the historical spirit of the work, as old samplers were traditionally made on linen. Its natural texture highlights the fineness of the stitches and the elegant contrast of red on a light background.

This creation can also be made on an Aida 5.5 stitches/cm fabric to facilitate the embroidery work, while maintaining similar dimensions. Beginners can thus enjoy the charm of this traditional model with an easier-to-count support.

The charts are printed with symbols and colors (ref. DMC) on 6 pages.
