Inspired by the learning samplers made in the 18th and 19th centuries, this magnificent antique sampler perpetuates the tradition of young embroiderers who demonstrated their know-how through rich compositions mixing alphabets, decorative motifs, and symbolic scenes. True testimonies of their time, these works were often kept a lifetime and passed down from generation to generation.
Designed by Création Point de Croix, this model reproduces the codes of antique samplers with remarkable richness of detail. Several alphabets of various styles unfold in the upper part, while a large central scene highlights a flowery altar surrounded by birds, animals, bouquets, and plant motifs. The flowery border that frames the whole brings balance and harmony to this traditional composition.
The model was embroidered on a light linen fabric worked over 2 warp threads and 2 weft threads. This support particularly highlights the fineness of the letters, the numerous decorative details, and the richness of the colors used in the work.
This creation can also be made on a DMC 11 threads/cm linen fabric embroidered over 2 warp threads and 2 weft threads or on an Aida 5.5 stitches/cm fabric to facilitate the embroidery work while maintaining the authentic spirit of the model.
The charts are printed with symbols and colors (DMC ref.) on 6 pages.
Pattern size: 230 stitches wide × 300 stitches high. Dimensions calculated for embroidery on 11 threads/cm linen embroidered over 2 warp threads and 2 weft threads, or on Aida 5.5 stitches/cm fabric approximately: 41.8 × 54.5 cm.
